As part of my weekly practice, I offer strengths-based, gentle supported assessments for clients wishing to progress to support to well-being long-term under ACC's sensitive claims funding. Your usual counselor, psychotherapist or psychologist will guide you through the process but if you are considering going ahead with the assessment here is some additional information about how I conduct the assessments that might be useful:
The assessments can be conducted here at the clinic, or at the place where you might meet with your usual counselor.
The assessments can be conducted over a few sessions to break them up, or some people prefer to do them in one go, which can generally take three hours.
There are also questionnaires to complete as part of the assessment. These can be given online for you to complete at home, or we can do them together when we meet.
We have a therapy dog, Hugo, at the clinic for pats and he can also go in his crate or stay home for those who do not like dogs. He doesn't mind! He has toys and will sleep/snore away the assessment.
You are welcome to email me if you have questions about an assessment that your lead provider cannot answer, if I am down as the assessor.
We take breaks as needed and the assessment will endeavour to be at your pace.
Questions range from what you have been through to your background to get an idea of who you are as a whole person. You are more than your trauma!
Your strengths, passions, hobbies, work life and support networks are all relevant and make up aspects of your life. Talking about them will also provide understanding of how trauma might have affected you in different areas of life.
